A Reenacting Legend Begins
Mr. Hiroki Nakazato, a veteran reenactor in Japan, traveled all the way to Arizona to join us for the American Heritage Festival. Though he came to portray a Japanese soldier of WWII, his sense of adventure and thirst for reenacting quickly led him in to other roles, despite his unfamiliarity with the English language. While attired as a Confederate infantryman (above) he was seen to lead a charge during a Civil War battle while shouting in a heavy accent something like "Go back to North you Yankees!" It was postulated that the gentleman must be from southern Japan.

Important Note:
In order to stage battle reenactments it is necessary to portray both sides. Please know that all of our reenactors are loyal Americans and that the intent in portraying former enemies such as Britain (American Revolution, War of 1812), Spain (Spanish American War), Germany (WWI, WWII) or Japan (WWII) is to honor our American ancestors by educating the public regarding the difficult challenges they faced and overcame. It should also be noted that each of these former enemies mentioned is currently a friend of the United States.

Though many submitted a few appreciated photos, special thanks go to the following photographers (listed below) for their particularly significant contributions in augmenting my own stock. Between us all the number of photos compiled was vast with many good ones to choose from, edit and re-size. I believe you will discover on this page not only a selection of the best of the photos but also a wide representation of the people and happenings that made up the 2005 American Heritage Festival.
